Introduction
'Harbour of the Games Industry'
Nearly 150 companies and about 3,000 employees in the digital games industry make Hamburg one of Germany’s top locations of the gaming sector. In particular, the presence of the city’s more than 20,000 media and IT enterprises creates a perfect environment for both new and established games companies in times of increasing media convergence.
Under the heading "Harbour of the Games Industry", the gamecity:Hamburg project which the initiative Hamburg@work started in 2003 offers the games sector a wide range of support options. Out of the initial Games task force evolved Germany’s most comprehensive regional gaming industry network with a broad portfolio of activities.
