Recap: Road to gamescom 2022
In 2022, the world's largest video games trade fair, gamescom, returned to Cologne under the theme "The Heart of Pop Culture." With our support program "Road to gamescom," Gamecity Hamburg enabled six indie studios from Hamburg to present their games at the Gamecity Hamburg booth at the beloved Indie Arena Booth.
We're back home in Hamburg and we stand in awe: A whopping 265,000 trade visitors and gamers visited the trade fair from Wednesday to Sunday. The developers and studios had the opportunity to exchange ideas, make important contacts with publishers as well as international and national press, and present their games to the general public.
On the first official day of the fair - the trade visitor day - Gamecity Hamburg hosted the traditional Hamburg reception, of course featuring the traditional Hamburg snacks fish buns and Franzbrötchen at the Gamecity Hamburg booth for more than 100 guests, who could test and play the games on display, enjoy a chat and network with old and new faces of the local and international industry.
During the day, our interactive creator drawing challenge "Drawmerama" attracted additionally trade visitors and end consumers to the Gamecity Hamburg booth who tested their drawing skills and had to draw a portrait of a creator of their choice as a game character.
The return to the on-site event ensured a large crowd at the popular Indie Arena Booth in Hall 10.2 with more than 130 indie studios from all over the world, which could also be explored on the online version of the Indie Arena Booth Online in the immersive multiplayer browser game. After successful two years of fine-tuning the multiplayer experience for the gamescom 2020 and 2021, the Indie Arena Booth Online, created by Hamburg-based Supercrowd Entertainment, showed once more how a real gaming experience can be enjoyed both in the online and real-life version of the Indie Arena Booth. And of course, it also proved to be the perfect location for our Gamecity Hamburg booth featuring six studios and games from Hamburg!

The six indie studios Tiny Roar with "XEL", Beardshaker Games with "Soulitaire", THREAKS with "Project MORPH", Octofox Games with "Wild Woods", OneManOnMars with "Leif's Adventure: Netherworld Hero" and CRATR.games with "Heart of Muriet" brought the Gamecity Hamburg booth to life with their presence and their fantastic indie games. In the run-up to gamescom, all participating teams received a workshop with Dennis Schoubye and Amanda Förtsch from Gamecity Hamburg who gave tips and tricks for the best possible representation at devcom, gamescom, and the Indie Arena Booth.

Speaking of lovely indie games: Big congratulations to Daedalic Entertainment who presented several of the games they either develop or publish on their own booth space at the Indie Arena Booth and who's publishing project "Inkulinati" won the awards for "Best Indie Game" and "Most Original Game" at the gamescom awards 2022.
