4th year of Games Lift: The application phase for the incubator program for game developers has started

Hamburg, 02. Mai 2023: Die Standortinitiative Gamecity Hamburg startet die Bewerbungsphase für den Games Lift Inkubator 2023. Entwickler*innen und Gaming-Start-ups können sich bis zum 20. Juni bis 23:59 Uhr auf www.gamecity-hamburg.de/de/inkubator/ für das in Deutschland einzigartige Förderprogramm für Spieleentwickler*innen bewerben. Fünf Teams erhalten finanzielle Förderung in Höhe von 15.000 Euro, ein umfassendes Workshop-Programm, Möglichkeit zum Austausch im neuen Innovationsraum der Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft in der HafenCity sowie Zugang zum Games Lift Network mit  Expert*innen der internationalen Games-Branche. Nach der dreimonatigen Workshop-Phase werden die Teams bis zum September 2024 mit individuellem Mentoring aktiv bei der Entwicklung ihrer Projekte unterstützt. Seit 2020 unterstützte Gamecity Hamburg bereits insgesamt 15 Start-ups und Entwickler*innen-Teams im Games Lift Inkubator bei der Entwicklung digitaler Spiele. 

„In unserem Games Lift Inkubator arbeiten wir in Phase 1 gemeinsam mit unseren Teams und Mentor*innen intensiv an der strategischen Ausrichtung der Projekte. Gleichzeitig ist es uns wichtig, die Teams langfristig zu unterstützen. Viele Fragen stellen sich den Teams erst in der weiteren Entwicklung ihrer Projekte. Daher intensivieren wir in diesem Jahr die Betreuung der Teams nach der dreimonatigen Workshop-Phase durch regelmäßige Treffen und zusätzliches Mentoring, das sich ganz nach ihren individuellen Herausforderungen richtet," erläutert Margarete Schneider, Projektmanagerin bei Gamecity Hamburg. 

Der Ablauf des Programms 

Bis zum 20. Juni können sich alle Bewerber*innen aus Hamburg oder Teams mit dem Plan, nach Hamburg zu ziehen, für den Games Lift Inkubator 2023 bewerben. Die vielversprechendsten Bewerber*innen werden vom Vergabegremium zu einem Online-Pitch eingeladen und anschließend fünf Teams in den Inkubator aufgenommen.  

Die Workshop-Phase des Förderprogramms beginnt am 11. September und endet mit der Abschlussveranstaltung Anfang Dezember. Im Anschluss an die Graduation unterstützt Gamecity Hamburg die Teams in Phase 2 bis zum September 2024 mit zusätzlichen Treffen und individuellem Coaching durch Mentor*innen sowie eine auf Indie Games spezialisierte PR-Agentur.  

Neuigkeiten zum Mentor*innen-Programm und Neuzugang im Vergabegremium 

Ausgewählte Mentor*innen werden ab diesem Jahr noch intensiver mit den Teams zusammenarbeiten und sie über den gesamten Inkubator-Zeitraum hinweg direkt und ihren Bedarfen entsprechend unterstützen; unter ihnen Manny Hachey (COO THREAKS), Björn Bergstein (Coach & Consultant für Management und Leadership), Daniel Marx (CEO & Game Director Osmotic Studios) und Steffen Rühl (Experte für digitale und analoge Spieleindustrie). In regelmäßigen, individuellen Mentoring-Sessions werden sie die Teams und ihre Projektfortschritte beraten. 

Ergänzend wird den teilnehmenden Teams auch in diesem Jahr das Games Lift Network mit seinen über 30 Expert*innen aus allen Bereichen der Branche bei konkreten Fragestellungen zu Themen aus allen Bereichen der Entwicklung und Vermarktung von digitalen Spielen zur Seite stehen. 

Neu dabei im Vergabegremium ist Heiko Gogolin, Managing Director bei Rocket Beans Entertainment, der das Gremium mit seiner langjährigen Erfahrung bei Rocket Beans und als Games-Journalist ergänzt.  
 

Das Vergabegremium 

Das Vergabegremium bestehend aus Expert*innen der lokalen Games-Branche sowie Vertreter*innen von Gamecity Hamburg und der Behörde für Kultur und Medien entscheidet, welche Bewerber*innen in den Games Lift Inkubator 2023 aufgenommen werden: 

2023 wird Heiko Gogolin Teil des Vergabegremiums. Er ist Managing Director bei Rocket Beans Entertainment, bekannt für ihre beliebten Gaming-Shows und Livestreams rund um Popkultur, Gaming, und Unterhaltung. Darüber hinaus bringt er Erfahrung als Chefredakteur des Gameskultur-Magazins „GEE” und Leitung der TV-Sendung „Reload” mit ein. 

Weitere Expert*innen des Vergabegremiums: Mareike Ottrand (Professorin für interaktive Illustration an der Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg und Mitgründerin Studio Fizbin), Ole Schaper (Managing Director The Sandbox Hamburg (Sviper GmbH), Jens Unrau (Abteilungsleiter für Medien- und Digitalwirtschaft der Behörde für Kultur und Medien in Hamburg) und Amanda Förtsch (Projektmanagerin bei Gamecity Hamburg).  

Info-Veranstaltung „Games Lift Insights“ am 16. Mai 

Für Interessierte gibt die Online-Veranstaltung „Games Lift Insights“ am 16. Mai um 16:30 Uhr einen ersten Einblick, was die teilnehmenden Teams im Workshop-Programm des Inkubators erwartet. Cassia Curran, Strategie- und Business Development Beraterin für Indie-Games und Teil des Games Lift Networks, gibt eine Einführung in Marktanalysen für Indie-Games. Ergänzend wird das Gamecity Team über Games Lift sowie das Bewerbungsverfahren informieren und steht für Fragen zur Verfügung.
