HAW Hamburg - A Place Where Indie Game Careers Are Born

Hamburg is home to a great number of vocational schools, private and public universities where people can learn all about games jobs and how to kickstart their career in the industry.

School Internship Games 2024 starts on January 8

From January 8 to 26, 2024, Hamburg games companies will once again open their doors for the School Internship Games: a comprehensive three-week internship for 16 students from 9th grade. Game developers and media educators provide practical tasks in game design, programming, audio and many other professional fields, in order to give the interns valuable insights in the process of creating video games.

School Internship Games 2024 - Apply now

Game companies from Hamburg are offering two comprehensive internships for 9th grade students in 2024. The first internship will take place from January 8 - 26, applications are open until September 29. The second internship will run from June 24 - July 12, students can apply for this edition until November 10.

School Internship Games 2023 - Wrap Up

From June 26 to July 7 a group of 16 students from Hamburg participated in the "internship games", which is a collaboration between different partners from the local games industry. Right now students can already apply for two more runs of the internship in 2024. Let's take a look at what the program was like this year.

School Internship Games January 2023: It's a wrap!

We can’t believe it’s already over again: For three weeks in January, 16 students from Hamburg schools participated in the School Internship Games at three different studios in Hamburg as well as the HAW University of Applied Sciences.

New round for school internship in Hamburg-based games companies in January 2023

During the "School Internship Games" in January 2023, 9th grade school students will learn more about job prospects in the games industry in Hamburg. They get insights into the games industry at the three Hamburg-based companies InnoGames, Goodgame Studios, and FISHLABS, as well as at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg).

Display 2022 - Let's Take a Look

At the event Display 2022, the students from the Games Master at HAW Hamburg presented the games they have been working on for the past three semesters. We were impressed by the creativity and skill showcased by the teams and want to share a glimpse of these projects with you.

Games Lift 2024: Apply now from May 2 until June 10

Applications for Gamecity Hamburg's 2024 Games Lift are open from May 2 to June 10. Five teams will receive financial support in the form of 15,000 euros, a comprehensive workshop program and access to the Games Lift Network of international industry experts. In addition, the teams can benefit from 1,000 euros in coaching budget. After a three-month workshop phase, the teams will be further supported with individual mentoring and will travel together to an international industry event until August 2025.

The Games Lift Incubator is a unique program offering 15,000 euros of funding, 3 months of workshops to get your game concept market-ready and a year of mentoring. Five teams per year get the chance to bring their game concept to the next level with this suppport.
